One important role undertaken by the Tax Team at the Institute is preparing submissions on a variety of tax-related matters that affect our members’ interests. These submissions may be in response to an invitation to comment, or a proactive initiative by the Institute in response to issues raised by members.

Depending on the issue, submissions and representations may be made to Government Ministers, the Treasury, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), the Inspector-General of Taxation, State and Territory revenue authorities and the Board of Taxation.

The Institute also attends a number of ATO Consultative Forums to table and resolve technical and policy issues affecting its members.

The Institute is also regularly involved in confidential consultation with the Treasury including the development of proposed legislation.

The Institute's Tax Team invite your input on issues that you feel the Institute should be aware of. We also invite members to comment on specific matters via items in the weekly Tax Bulletin. Please direct general comments to Tax Group. These will be forwarded to the appropriate person of the Institute's Tax Team.
